Established mold on a coil sometimes means the coil itself needs professional cleaning beyond what a duct-level treatment reaches, and we'll tell you upfront if that's what's going on rather than treating it like a routine visit.
First step is tracking down where the growth actually is. Treating the ducts alone doesn't do much if the real source is sitting on the coil or in the condensate pan. Once we've found it, we apply an EPA-registered antimicrobial treatment, not a consumer-grade air freshener, since those just mask the smell instead of dealing with what's producing it. The treatment goes throughout the duct interior and directly onto any affected components, then it needs time to work before the system runs again. Most residential jobs take two to three hours. Longer if the coil needs its own cleaning pass on top of the duct treatment. We finish with a final odor check: run the system, confirm the smell's actually gone at the register, not just covered up by the treatment's own scent while it's still wet.
